Nonprofit Katy Responds repaired and returned a home located at 19607 Knightsridge, Katy, that was damaged by Hurricane Harvey on Nov. 15, Katy Responds Communications Director Brianne Hill said.
Corina Contreras and her six family members had been living in the house, which took on more than a foot of water during the 2017 storm, she said. Because the family had no where else to go, they moved their belongings upstairs as mold grew on the first floor.
Katy Responds began demolishing the home in July and nearly 80 local volunteers donated about 480 hours to repair the home. The repairs cost about $27,000, which Katy Responds funded through grants and donations.
“You guys will never know how much this means to me,” Corina Conteras said. "I won't be able to take a step, to open or cabinet or walk into a room without being reminded of all that you have done for me and my family. Thank you seems so small, but thank you for giving my family our home back!" www.katyresponds.com
