Fort Bend County Commissioner Court amended its schedule between April 2023 to September 2023 and will now meet two times a month instead of three. The change to assembly every second and fourth Tuesday of each month will occur after the court’s March 28 meeting.

County Judge KP George said this change was more cost-effective to taxpayers.

After the court theorized what changes would need to be made with meetings getting 50% longer on average, discussion extended to forming a steering committee.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Dexter McCoy, who attended the meeting virtually, proposed this group could advise the court on updated policies to retain the efficiency of meetings.

“We could give them two or three weeks to look at what policy changes we might need to consider to make sure that as we meet fewer times in the month, there is no impact on our ability to do the work,” he said.

Precinct 1 Commissioner Victor Morales, whose jurisdiction encompasses Katy and Fulshear, agreed with McCoy’s idea and added that he has had discussions with the engineering department on how to streamline processes that depend on the court’s approval.

“If you would get all the different department heads together, the county clerk, etc., just [so they can] have some input [on best practices],” Morales said.

Commissioners and the steering committee would also discuss the deadline in which items are submitted for consideration on the next meeting’s agenda. Commissioners agreed to amend processes as the need for changes became necessary.
