Tropical Storm Harvey hit Texas approximately one week before Labor Day, traditionally a time for holiday traffic. The Grand Parkway—Katy’s main toll road—took a financial hit as drivers stayed home and tolls were suspended temporarily.

In September, overall revenue dropped by 24.21 percent year-over-year, or a decrease of $2.83 million, according to monthly traffic and operating reports from the Grand Parkway Transportation Corporation.

Toll revenue, which accounts for a majority of highway revenue, fell by 25.77 percent in September year-over-year, or $2.76 million. However, the Grand Parkway had more total car transactions this September: 14.11 million compared to the 10.21 million transactions recorded in September 2016.

The Grand Parkway Transportation Corporation reported minor damage from Harvey totaling less than $500,000 but said funds were available for repairs and debt service payments for the current fiscal year, according to the report.
