The site, located at the southeast corner of Peek Road and Elyson Falls Drive between FM 529 and Beckendorff Road, will be home to a kindergarten through 12th-grade campus. It will have both a 59,000-square-foot elementary school and a 90,000-square-foot middle and high school building. Harmony Public Schools consists of nearly 60 Texas public charter schools focused on science, technology, engineering and math.
The land was purchased from Elyson developer Brookfield Properties Development the release said. The new elementary school will feature an all-new design that will be a prototype for future Harmony system schools. The school will have standard classrooms, specialized learning spaces, technology labs, a “maker’s space," outdoor learning areas, a cafeteria with performance space and a gymnasium.
According to the release, officials plan to break ground on the elementary school Nov. 1 with its inaugural school year beginning in August 2022. The release said no timeline had been determined regarding the construction of the middle and high school building.
The Harmony system has a 98% senior graduation rate, according to the release, as well as a 100% college acceptance rate. Additionally, 64% of Harmony graduates are the first in their family to attend college.
“Harmony Public Schools will add to the exceptional public education opportunities that have helped make Elyson one of the fastest-growing communities in the Houston region,” said Brookfield’s Heather Gustafson, the director of marketing for Elyson.
According to the release, Harmony Public Schools do not have attendance boundaries. Additionally, because there is typically a waiting list to attend Harmony schools, students are enrolled using a lottery system. The application period for enrollment for the 2022-23 school year, including for the new elementary school at Elyson, will begin Nov. 1.
