Three new members will join the University of Houston System board of regents for six-year terms, according to a press release from UH.

Gov. Greg Abbott officially appointed the three new members March 12. Doug Brooks, Joe Gutierrez and Jack Moore, all UH alumni, are set to join the UH System's governing body.

"I could not be more pleased with Governor Abbott's thoughtful approach to the leadership of the University of Houston System," UH System Chancellor Renu Khator said in a press release. "Each appointee has shown great dedication to the success of UH throughout their careers and I am excited about how they will work to move all of our universities forward."

A familiar face to UH, Welcome W. Wilson, Jr., who was one of the members with a term that expired last fall, will continue influencing Texas education with his appointment by Abbott to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The other two terms being replaced belonged to Spencer Armour, III and Roger F. Welder.

The newly appointed members all employ a diverse skill set, with backgrounds ranging from Hotel and Restaurant Management to energy to business, according to the release.

According to the release, Brooks is the first Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management alumnus to be inducted into the college's Hospitality Industry Hall of Honor, and has experience leading Brinker International as the president and CEO.

"Under Brooks' leadership, Brinker International won numerous industry honors including being named one of the World's Most Admired Food Services Companies by Fortune magazine," the release stated.

Gutierrez boasts more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry according to the release, and was honored by the university when the Bauer College's Gutierrez Energy Management Institute was named after him.

Moore is an experienced businessman and has decades of experience working with Baker Hughes Incorporated and Cameron International Corporation.

"All three of these men have achieved success with the knowledge they gained from the University of Houston and they are passionate about giving back. What an opportunity this is for all our universities in the UH System," Tilman Fertitta, chairman of the UHS Board of Regents, said in the release.

The UH Board of Regents next meeting is set for 3 p.m. May 24 at the Hilton University of Houston Hotel, according to the UH System's website.
