The Katy ISD Board of Trustees is still holding meetings at the district's Miller Career and Technology Center,
1734 Katyland Drive, Katy, while repairs are made to the Education Support Complex. Here are two take-aways from that meeting:
1. Scheduling changed for Simon Youth Academy
The board approved an additional scheduling option for the Simon Youth Academy program operated out of Katy Mills mall. The program allows students at risk of dropping out to attend classes using an alternative schedule.
Originally, classes at the academy were from 8 a.m.-noon and from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. Now, students may also attend from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
“In the first year we’ve seen [the program] be very successful," Superintendent Lance Hindt said. "We’ve had about 51 kids that were in the program initially, but we believe by offering another period in which the kids will be there … we can actually hit more students and best utilize our staffing at that facility."
2. Trustees vote for appraisal district board members
The board voted for Pete Pape to represent the district at the Harris County Tax Appraisal District, for Roosevelt Alexander on the Waller County Appraisal District and for Al Abramczyk on the Fort Bend Central Appraisal District.
Each district board devotes at least one seat to represent member school districts. Alexander, Abramczyk and Pape are all current board members of their respective appraisal districts.
