Katy Vibes co-owner Adam Syed did not initially see himself going into the restaurant industry.
Right after he earned a degree in music composition from Trinity University, his uncle and fellow co-owner Sam Syed asked if he wanted to team up and open the restaurant.
“I have a background in music and marketing; I quickly had to learn all the hats and keep this place going,” Adam said.
Initially called Vortex when it opened in January 2019, Adam said they had to change their name after a trademarked Atlanta-based restaurant with a similar name sent them a cease and desist. They did online polls to determine a new name, and Katy Vibes ended up as the winning choice.
“It’s hard to put Katy Vibes into a box; we do so many different things,” Adam said. “We’re a restaurant, a nightclub, a live music venue. We’re a comedy club—we have a comedy show tonight.”
Adam said he finds the range of events at Katy Vibes, which also includes a karaoke night, can be attributed to the diversity of the Katy community, not just demographically but interest-wise as well.
“We have successfully developed a lot of attractions for multiple parts of the Katy community, and we’re always willing to do more if there’s a desire for it,” Adam said.
The restaurant serves a variety of entrees, including wings, burgers, pastas and seafood. Adam said he is proud of Katy Vibes’ menu evolution over the years, with the eatery adding more fresh seafood and grilled items.
“The team we have in the kitchen is very imaginative and creative, and cares about the quality of the product they put out,” he said.
What makes Adam passionate about Katy Vibes is seeing all of their customers satisfied and having a great time, he said.
“When you have a full house that you’ve managed to make happy, those are the really great moments,” Adam said.
When it comes to the future of Katy Vibes, Adam said he wants bigger and better events.
“The future of Katy Vibes is to continue the process of improvement that we never stopped,” he said.
