Editor's note: This story has been updated at noon, Feb. 5, to reflect the latest candidate filing of Lance Redmon in the race for Position 2 on the Katy ISD school board.  The 2019 local election season is underway, and a number of City Council and school board trustee seats are up for election this year in the Katy area. In Katy ISD, three people have filed for candidacy for the two open board positions, Position 1 and Position 2,  according to KISD website:
  • Sean Dolan filed for the Position 1 seat, held by George Scott
  • Donald T. “Duke” Keller Jr. filed for Position 1
  • incumbent Rebecca Fox filed for re-election Position 2
  • Lance Redmon filed for Position 2
In the city of Katy, three positions are on the May 4 ballot for mayor, Ward A and Ward B. As of noon on Feb. 5, five people have filed to for candidacy, according to the city secretary:
    • incumbent Chuck Brawner filed to run for mayor
    • former Katy Police Chief Bill Hastings filed to run for mayor
    • incumbent Frank Carroll filed to run for Ward A
    • Steve Pierson filed for the Ward B seat, held by Jimmy Mendez
    • Jenifer Jordan Stockdick filed for Ward B
In the city of Fulshear, four positions are are up for election: at-large Position 1, District 1, District 4 and District 5. Four people have filed for candidacy as of noon on Feb. 5 according to the city secretary:
  • incumbent Ken Pool filed for re-election for the at-large Position 1
  • Kevin White filed for the District 1 seat, held by Dana Hollingsworth
  • incumbent Joel Patterson filed for re-election for District 4
  • incumbent and Mayor Pro Tem Kaye Kahlich filed for re-election for District 5
According to the Texas Secretary of State, the deadline to file for candidacy is Feb. 15. The last day to register to vote or make a change of address is April 4. Early in-person voting runs from April 22-30.
