The Katy City Council held their regular meeting Monday, during which time the council discussed the following agenda items, among others:

1. Regarding board memberships on various city boards and commissions.
Mayor Chuck Brawner said that appointments to city boards and commissions will now undergo an application process. The city has open seats on the Building and Standards Commission, the Keep Katy Beautiful Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

“What we want to do is get people who have talent in this town, in the city of Katy, to be able to come forward and volunteer a little bit of their time to help our city grow and be a part of the process,” said Brawner.

Applicants can apply through the city's website and should expect to be interviewed by the mayor, the chairman of the relevant board or commission, and another city administrator.

2. Stop signs being added at multiple intersections
Stop signs will be added along Woodcreek Bend Lane at the roadway's intersection with Morgan Parkway and Rustic Woods Lane. Stop signs were also approved for Second and Third streets at their intersections with Avenue B and Avenue C.

3. Resolutions for $86,750 on technology improvements and city beautification approved
The council voted unanimously to spend up to $15,000 in Municipal Court Security Funds and up to $35,000 in technology funds to upgrade security and computer systems for the city. Council members also voted to use $36,750 of reserve enterprise funds to fund a mural on the 250,000-gallon elevated storage tank at water plant number two.

Council person J. Gary Jones voted against the measure, saying he felt the mural's expenditure was unnecessary.
