1. Temporary structures ordinance amended
The council voted unanimously to amend the city’s Code of Ordinances, Chapter 3 regarding the removal of temporary structures once permanent structures are approved. At the suggestion of Council Member Ray Boothe, a 30-day grace period was added to ensure citizens had time to obtain a certificate of occupation once new buildings are completed. Violations of the ordinance carry a $2,000-per-day fine.
2. Over $1 mil. in infrastructure contracts awarded
The council approved three contract awards for infrastructure repairs or expansions totaling about $1.1 million.
- AAA Asphalt Paving Inc. received a $497,000 contract for the city’s 2017 Street Rehabilitation Project.
- IPR South Central received a $365,477.50 contract for the Pin Oak Sanitary Sewer Line Project
- MMG Contractors received a $197,131 contract for the Waterline Replacement Project.
3. Katy, Fort Bend County progress with Texas Heritage Parkway
The council authorized Mayor Chuck Brawner to sign an interlocal agreement with Fort Bend County to build Texas Heritage Parkway within the city of Katy. The project design includes roundabouts at major crossroads and connects I-10 to FM 1093, according to documents from project engineers BGE Inc.
4. City planner position created
The council unanimously approved a new city planner position for the city Monday. City Administrator Byron Hebert said that this was a step toward establishing a city planning department. The position will report to the public works director and will be responsible for economic and community development, paying close attention to efficient land use.
5. Katy Police Department marks 50 years of service
The council honored the department, which began patrolling the city in July 1967. The force has grown from three to 57 commissioned officers.
“We’re very proud of the police department and the job that you guys have done,” Brawner said.
