A Japanese electronic products corporation broke ground off Grand Parkway and north of I-10 at Energy West Business Park in Katy on Feb. 16.

Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp., or TMEIC, is expected to bring in at least 100 full-time jobs, said Lance LaCour, president and CEO of the Katy Area Economic Development Council.

“We’re focused on companies like TMEIC because of the jobs,” he said. “There’s a lot of value added.”

Capital expenditures for the project amount to about $6 million, LaCour said. The facility, constructed by Lone Star Construction, is expected to open in late 2017.

KAEDC assisted in recruiting the company, which manufactures solar power inverters.
