Before opening Kingdom and Wheels, an indoor roller rink and playground for children ages 3-13 years old, Pamela Correa was a stay-at-home mother in Cinco Ranch. She wanted another activity option for younger Katy-area children to experience.

Correa opened the 3,000-square-foot rink April 18, 2016, at 25757 Westheimer Parkway, Katy, in what was then a new shopping center. The 6,000-square-foot facility offers open skating sessions, parties, summer camps, a play area for toddlers and a snack bar in addition to the playground.

“Right now, Katy’s growing a lot and you start having a lot more options,” she said. “I want to treat my guests like royalty.”

Originally from Mexico, Correa said she roller skated as a child, but it was not a strictly pursued passion. She previously worked in the automotive parts industry, so her husband, a lawyer, helped her navigate the entrepreneurial process.

The business took three years to get off the ground, but Correa said she only had about three days to come up with the name “Kingdom and Wheels” as a last-minute change. As she described it, “[A] kingdom is the place for the kids.”

Although the business is designed for children, adults can also get on the floor. General admission is $8 per skater or $10 per skater if renting roller skates. Rentals range from a 3-year-old size 10 skate to an adult-size 13 skate.

On Fridays, Kingdom and Wheels hosts parents night out from 6-10 p.m., complete with special activities.

Katy’s Kingdom and Wheels wraps up second summer in businessThis summer, Kingdom and Wheels also offered its first sessions of Switch, a Spanish-language camp. Correa said Kingdom and Wheels also hosted frequent field trips throughout the summer.

Heaven Hazel, a teacher at Children’s Lighthouse at Cross Creek Ranch, and her children got to experience the rink for the first time when the learning center took a field trip July 25.

“I think it’s the cutest thing ever,” Hazel said. “[Her children] are always skating. It’s their new hobby.”

Looking ahead, Correa said she wants to launch a franchise. Most of all, Correa said she likes working with children, whom she described as some of the most brutally honest customers.

“They know if they like it or not,” she said. “I like it because the place is for them. I want them to be happy.”
