The Katy Rice Harvest Festival celebrated its 37th year last weekend, Oct. 14-15. It began in 1978 as Sellabration, and was located at the VFW Park in Katy. The fair changed its name in 1980 and moved to downtown Katy in order to accommodate the attendance's rapid growth, according to the event's website. The festival began as a way to commemorate the harvest season, as Katy used to encompass numerous rice farms, and is now sponsored by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce.
