Roadway projects are set to begin near Huggins Elementary School in 2025.

The gist

Huggins Road will gain a center lane with the commencement of a $6.5 million project to widen and extend the road from Fulshear Katy Road to FM 359, said Mark Dessens, program manager and consultant for Fort Bend County Precinct 1.

Additional project details include:
  • Waterline improvements
  • Adding a sidewalk between FM 359 and Fulshear Katy Road
The project will also include realigning Houston Street and Dixon Road where they intersect with Huggins Road, he said.

The cost

The project is jointly funded by the city of Fulshear and the November 2013 Fort Bend County voter-approved mobility bond, which outlined $184.9 million for 62 county projects, Community Impact reported.

Why it matters

The project aims to provide relief to a heavily used road near Huggins Elementary School, Dessens said.

“The addition of the third lane should allow traffic to flow better during school pickup and dropoff peaks, and the extension to the east will provide easy access to FM 359 without having to go through a residential subdivision,” he said.

Additionally, the project will provide relief as the area develops.

What’s next?

Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025 and will wrap up in the first quarter of 2026, Dessens said.
