A project to improve drainage along Katy’s Third Street will wrap up in 2025.

The gist

At a Sept. 9 meeting, Katy City Council approved a $2.9 million agreement with AR Turnkee Construction Company, Inc. for Third Street drainage improvements between Airline Drive and Katyland Drive.



The project will be funded by American Rescue Plan Act coronavirus relief funds, according to agenda documents.


The details

The project aims to alleviate a number drainage issues along Third Street, including backup issues throughout the city, City Engineer David Kasper previously said.

The Third Street drainage improvements include:
  • Installing box culverts
  • Adding storm sewer pipes
  • Improving asphalt
Additionally, the project will add 113 parking spaces and sidewalk to the south side of Third Street, Kasper said. Third Street runs along Katy’s historic rice dryers.

Looking ahead


Construction will begin in early December and is expected to wrap up in early May, Kasper said.
