A Willow Fork Drainage District recreational trail could soon be closed for a six-month period, and the Texas Department of Transportation is requesting community input before going forward with the project.

What you need to know

TxDOT has proposed a highway improvement project for the Grand Parkway that will impact some usage of the WFDD trail along Buffalo Bayou that runs under the highway. The proposed time for the temporary trail closing would be March to August, according to a TxDOT news release.

The $103 million Grand Parkway widening project focuses on the addition of two lanes between FM 1093 and I-10, impacting both Harris and Fort Bend counties.

Terms to know

TxDOT has issued a de minimis determination, meaning the project will not affect or change the features of the trail.

In fact, TxDOT officials said in the news release that patrons would still be able to access the train both east and west of the closure area during construction.
