Construction of the West Houston Medical Center inspired the need for temporary housing for patients and caregivers coming to the Katy area for treatment of life-threatening illnesses, according to The Ballard House's website. Since its inception in 2013, The Ballard House has provided more than 80,000 free nights to families who need this service.

To celebrate 10 years since its founding in Katy and express gratitude to volunteers, donors and community members, Cinco Charities—the nonprofit organization that raises money through fundraising to support no cost housing services at The Ballard House—hosted an open house Oct. 7 that included a raffle, a caricature artist, food and music.

The Ballard House is located on a 3-acre plot in Cinco Ranch and features 24 suites, a game room, chapels, a serenity garden, and community kitchen and dining areas. It functions on donations from individuals, corporations, foundation groups and faith communities for household items, food pantry items and operations.
