Thomas Park, one of the oldest parks in the city, is home to the tri-county marker, where the Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties meet. The 2.1-acre park includes a walking path, playground and gazebo currently, and city officials look to almost double the park’s size to 3.9 acres.
Katy residents are encouraged to complete an online survey as city officials work to determine the best use of the historical space, Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Browne said in an email.
The survey, which opened late April, will collect feedback online through the end of May. In the survey, residents are asked to provide input on:
- How residents envision using the space
- What recreation elements should be incorporated
- Future community events in the space
- How the park’s history should be showcased
In case you missed it
At a March 24 meeting, Katy City Council approved a $72,000 contract with MHS Planning & Design LLC to create a conceptual master plan for Thomas Park and the surrounding areas, including two properties the city has acquired since 2019.
The conceptual plan—which will also include a preferred schematic design—aims to determine the best use of the space for residents, officials previously said.
What’s next?
The Thomas Park conceptual plan is expected to be completed within six months, with the final draft plan going to City Council in the fall, Browne said.
A construction timeline for the site will be dependent on future capital improvement project budget approval, he said.
