Residents will have the opportunity to take a free trolley ride around Katy’s Historic Town Square.

Two-minute impact

The trolley will offer its first rides during the inaugural Katy Exchange event March 15 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Historic Town Square, Kaci Maris, Katy’s tourism and marketing event coordinator, said in an email.

The 2013 Ford trolley van and a carport awning were approved by City Council at a Feb. 24 meeting, according to agenda documents. The $60,000 purchase was funded by the city’s hotel occupancy tax, which has limited spend uses, including items that enhance and promote tourism.

The trolley route will begin behind the Civic Center with stops including:

  • Veterans of Foreign Wars Park
  • Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum
  • Various Heritage Society homes
