Fort Bend and Harris counties are teaming up to bring a trail near Freedom Park.

The big picture

At a Jan. 28 meeting, Fort Bend County commissioners approved an interlocal agreement with Harris County Precinct 4 to construct a half-mile asphalt trail between Fun Fair Positive Soccer, a Houston-based youth soccer league, and Freedom Park, a park in Cinco Ranch.

The $2.08 million trail will also include a signalized intersection to assist pedestrians in crossing Westheimer Parkway, according to agenda documents.

Fun Fair Positive Soccer is located at 20150 Westheimer Parkway, Houston, while Freedom Park is located at 18050 Westheimer Parkway, Houston. Freedom Park offers a walking trail, playground, three soccer fields and four baseball fields, according to its website.

The cost

The project will be jointly funded by the counties, with Harris County contributing $1.08 million, while Fort Bend County will pay no more than $1 million, according to agenda documents.

Looking ahead

A timeline for the project is still in development, Precinct 4 officials said in an email.
