The overview
The 2023 results, which were released Dec. 12, show the city of Katy’s median household income increased 38.08% between the 2023 five-year estimates and 2018 five-year estimates, from $77,731 to $107,332. However, the city continues to have the lowest median household income when compared to the city of Fulshear and the residents within Katy ISD and Lamar Consolidated ISD's boundaries.
The city of Fulshear’s median household income is the highest of the four geographic areas at $178,398.
The details
Additionally, the educational attainment of the area’s residents also increased over the five-year period in most areas. More Fulshear residents age 25 and older have a high school diploma or higher, or a bachelor’s degree or higher, when compared to other three geographic areas.Per the 2023 data, more than 99% of Fulshear residents have at least graduated from high school, while 68.4% of residents age 25 and older have obtained at least a bachelor’s degree.
However, the area in LCISD’s boundaries had the largest percentage-point increase over the 2018-23 time period for those age 25 or older. The data shows the percentage of residents who obtained their high school diploma or higher increased 5.47 percentage points.
More residents in LCISD also obtained their bachelor’s degree or higher, growing 12.3 percentage points in that time frame.
Meanwhile, the city of Katy’s residents saw the greatest percent increase over the five-year period, growing from only 34.8% of residents having at least their bachelor’s degree to 47.1% in 2023—a more than 35-point growth, according to the data.
