Fort Bend County parks could see improvements following the commissioners’ Oct. 22 approval of the 2024 Fort Bend County Parks and Trails Vision Plan.

The overview

The plan aims to provide recommendations for park improvements as well as trails, programming and conservation. The revision builds upon the county’s 2015 Parks Master Plan and will assist the county in receiving grants for parks projects, said Nathlie Varley, a senior planner with infrastructure consulting firm Halff.

“Throughout public engagement, we heard similar themes—various things about the parks in Fort Bend County—one being that most people weren’t aware of where the Fort Bend County parks are and what programs are being offered,” she said. “We also heard a desire for improved signage and lighting, natural vegetation, additional programming, and trails.”

According to agenda documents, the plan outlines 42 action items to help the county achieve four overarching goals:
  • Supporting efficient operations of the parks department
