Fulshear City Council voted unanimously at its Oct. 15 meeting to dissolve the Historical Preservation and Museum Commission, which was created to provide input on the use and development of historical sites and museums.

The details

The duties of the commission will be assigned to the Planning and Zoning Commission, according to city documents.

Responsibilities of the dissolved commission include recommending further development and proposing budgets for implementation and recommending plans for maintenance.

The Planning and Zoning Commission will also monitor the receipt and disbursement of regional preservation funds and perform planning and zoning recommendations.

Also of note

The commission was dissolved due to the lack of interest from residents and the failure to establish a quorum for a number of years, Community Impact previously reported.

Per city documents, the city received fewer volunteer applications than necessary to meet the minimum number of seven residents required to serve on the commission.

The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended to the City Council on Oct. 4 that it dissolve the commission, according to city documents.

What they’re saying

At a July 13 meeting, City Manager Zach Goodlander said he’s confident the city’s history will not be overlooked by dissolving the board thanks to the "much more active" Fulshear Historical Association.
