Fort Bend County commissioners enacted an outdoor burn ban in all unincorporated areas of the county following the Texas A&M Forest Service reporting worsening drought conditions.

What residents need to know

The commissioners’ unanimous decision at the Oct. 8 Commissioners Court meeting comes as 115 counties across the state, including Harris and Waller counties, have active burn bans, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service's website.

The state is at a Level 2 on its wildland fire and preparedness levels, which means elevated fire danger is observed in some regions of the state.

What else?

Fort Bend County commissioners also approved a ban on certain fireworks through Nov. 8 in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The order prohibits the sale or use of fireworks including “skyrockets with sticks” and “missiles with fins,” according to agenda documents.

Looking ahead

The burn ban will be active until rescinded by commissioners, according to agenda documents.
