The gist
At an Aug. 13 meeting, Fort Bend County Commissioners approved a $416,750 contract with LDDBlueline LLC for design on the county’s new Environmental Health Complex near Klauke and Walsh roads in Rosenberg.
The building will house all environmental health staff as well as the mosquito control unit, which was established in October 2023, said Nimra Zubair, public information officer for Fort Bend County Health & Human Services, in an email.
“This facility is designed to improve our capacity for mosquito control and other environmental health operations,” Zubair said. “The building will provide essential space for entomological work, laboratory testing and fleet storage, ensuring the resources are available to effectively carry out mosquito control and vector-borne disease surveillance in the county.”
The details
The Environmental Health Complex will feature a 18,400-square-foot administration building as well as three warehouse buildings and a 6,000-square-foot truck storage facility, according to agenda documents.
Complex features will include:
- Laboratory space
- Storage and maintenance space for vehicles
- Chemical storage
The building is expected to cost $8.8 million, which includes furniture and equipment, Zubair said.
Notable quote
“This facility will centralize all Environmental Health operations in Fort Bend County, including the Mosquito Control Unit, at one location, simplifying access for residents seeking assistance with environmental health-related issues,” Zubair said.
What’s next?
Although an exact timeline has yet to be established, construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, Zubair said.
