Katy residents will see an increase in price for trash and recycling services.

What residents need to know

At an Aug. 26 meeting, Katy City Council approved an annual price adjustment for trash and recycling services to account for the rise in gas, landfill and labor costs.

Customers can expect to see a 2.1% monthly increase for residential and commercial services, according to agenda documents. The new monthly rate for residents will be $16.69, while commercial residents will now pay $25.46.
Additionally, the extra bin rate increased from $2.48 to $2.53 monthly, according to agenda documents.

What they’re saying

Council members thanked Texas Pride Disposal for its service and for ensuring residents can see lower prices then in the past with previous providers.

“We have all experienced inflation with everything lately,” council member Gina Hicks said. “I know the cost of labor is still going up and you still have that to deal with, so I appreciate the small increase we can pass onto our residents.”

Looking back

Council initially awarded the bid for waste collection and recycling to Texas Pride Disposal in July 2020 with services beginning in September 2020, Community Impact reported. The city previously partnered with Republic Services.

What’s next?

The new rate will go into effect beginning Sept. 1, according to agenda documents.
