Texas comfort food is heading to Cane Island with the opening of 1836 Republic Bar & Grill this fall, owners Dontua and Michael Estes said.

The overview

The Texas-themed restaurant aims to showcase the Lone Star State’s history as guests explore through dining, decor and southern hospitality, Dontua Estes said.

“We definitely want them to take away a little bit of history,” she said. “That’s what really ... makes Texas what it is.”

On the menu

The menu will be a combination of Southern-style food and Tex-Mex food as well as build-your-own and specialty burgers. Additionally, the kids menu will feature Texaroni, a Texas-shaped macaroni dish, Dontua Estes said.

Patrons will also be able to enjoy Texas beers and liquors and special Texas-themed cocktails.

What else?

The restaurant will also host family days on Sundays with facing painting and appearances by the restaurant’s mascot, the Estes said.

Additional special events will include karaoke, nights where children eat for free, and car and motorcycle meet-ups.
