The details
The hydrogen hub project will be run by HyVelocity, a group of organizations working together to promote clean hydrogen in Texas, southwest Louisiana and the U.S. Gulf Coast areas. HyVelocity is expected to create 45,000 jobs in the region, according to the release.
The Biden-Harris administration announced a $7 billion investment in hydrogen production through seven regional hubs as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, according to the release.

These hubs aim to:
- Accelerate the domestic market for low-cost
- Produce clean hydrogen
- Promote clean energy
- Create jobs
- Manufacture domestically while reducing carbon emissions
The six other hubs include:
- Mid-Atlantic Hydrogen Hub in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey
- Appalachian Hydrogen Hub in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania
- California Hydrogen Hub
- Heartland Hydrogen Hub in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota
- Midwest Hydrogen Hub in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan
- Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub in Washington, Oregon and Montana
“It is a natural fit, as Houston is the energy capital of the world,” U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, D-Houston, said in an Oct. 13 news release.
Fletcher promoted Houston to be a hub during an Energy & Commerce committee hearing in March.
