Smart Kids University, a new kind of after-school program targeting gifted individuals, is coming to Katy.

What parents need to know

The business will bring after-school classes for gifted students aimed to build upon their knowledge and connect them with their peers, owners Gerta Shema and Omri Shafran said.

“We recognize there is a need to bridge the gap between school and after-school activities for these gifted individuals, and we want to further support their unique educational journey and help them reach their full potential,” Shema said.

The details

The classes will be taught both in-person and virtually and are geared towards students ages 7 to 14, Shema said.

There are a number of class options, including:
  • Artificial intelligence: computer programming, 3D printing, robotics, and art and animation created by artificial intelligence
  • Natural sciences: little scientists, space, advanced math, architecture and veterinary
  • Social sciences: finances, governments/politics, arts, project management, magic tricks and writing
Ahead of students beginning classes, they will take an IQ test, which will help determine their skill level for placement, Shema said.

Looking ahead

Beyond the Katy location, Shafran said they plan to expand into the Houston area and then go nationwide.
