New golf technology has made its way into Katy, offering an innovative way to play.

The big picture

X-Golf, a California-based golfing enterprise, offers a virtual golfing experience featuring indoor golf simulators that read swings through a combination of camera systems, infrared lasers, impact sensors and gaming software, according to the website. Guests are able to rent simulators that accommodate up to six people for as little as 30 minutes at a time.

“The X-Golf technology is world class—it performs over 6,000 calculations per second in order to deliver the player the most accurate readings of any simulator out there on the market,” X-Golf Katy owner and president Chris Pena said. “What also makes our simulators unique is the incredible accuracy of the short game, including putting.”

On the menu

Customers can enjoy an expansive menu offering shareables, such as pretzel bites, spinach artichoke dip and wings, as well as sandwiches and hot dogs, Pena said.

The menu also offers exclusive cocktails, including the La Suegra, a twist on a spicy margarita with housemade salsa verde for some added kick, and the Breakfast Ball, made with a house-infused bacon-washed bourbon smoked tableside with applewood.

What else?

Those wanting to improve their swing can also book lessons with on-site golf professional James Dalthorp, who offers options for both juniors and adults. Prices vary in age and frequency of lessons, Pena said.

“I’ve been around the golf game a long time, and he is one of the best teachers I’ve seen in quite some time,” he said.

Get involved

In addition to everyday rounds, Pena said the Katy location also offers leagues and tournaments, where players can compete with local competitors or X-Golf users across the nation. Leagues are typically run seasonally, lasting eight to 12 weeks with participants playing once per week.

“It’s an awesome gig, and people love not just the prizes for these events but the community you can build within the store,” Pena said.
