On Dec. 6, a grand opening ceremony for Joe V’s Smart Shop by H-E-B in Katy was hosted by the discount grocer’s staff and executives.

The 55,000-square-foot store is the 10th location within the Houston area.

The setup

Joe V’s offers a lower price format for its products, which include many of the same grocery items available at H-E-B, such as in-store cut meats, dairy items and frozen foods.

Other items from H-E-B’s grocery departments that can be found at a discounted price at Joe V’s are:
  • Handmade sushi selections, rice bowls and teriyaki
  • H-E-B Meal Simple prepared entrees and appetizers
  • A Latino cheese selection
  • Bakery items such as in-store made tortillas, pastries and breads
The impact
Robinson Elementary, Brosnahan Elementary, Thornton Junior High, McRoberts Elementary, Rhoades Elementary, Cardiff Junior High and Katy Christian Ministries were awarded various donations from Joe V's during the opening celebration on Dec. 6. (Courtesy H-E-B)
The opening celebration also included $10,000 donations awarded to Katy ISD’s Cardiff Junior High School and Cy-Fair ISD’s Brosnahan Elementary School.

Four other schools within the two school districts received a smaller donation, as well as Katy Christian Ministries—a nonprofit providing social services to residents in the West Houston region.
