A closer look
The candidate filing period for the local election opens Jan. 14 and closes Feb. 13, according to Texas Secretary of State’s website. Multiple positions for Katy ISD, Katy City Council and Fulshear City Council will be on the ballot.
According to the entities’ websites, positions on the ballot include:
Katy City Council, At-Large member
- Held by Mayor Pro-Tem Chris Harris, the position is term-limited, meaning Harris is unable to run for reelection.
- Held by Janet Corte, the position is term-limited, meaning Corte is unable to run for reelection.
- Held by Rory Robertson, the position is term-limited, meaning Robertson is unable to run for reelection.
- Held by Don McCoy, the position will be a one-year term due to redistricting.
- Held by Mayor Pro-Tem Sarah B. Johnson
- Held by Patrick Powers
- Held by Christina Baron, the position will be a one-year term due to redistricting.
- Held by Richard Russell
- Held by Abhijeet Utturkar, the position will be a one-year term due to redistricting.
- Held by Jason Knape, the position will be a one-year term due to redistricting.
- Held by Camron K. Miller
- Held by Amy Thieme

Term durations vary for each entity, with Fulshear City Council members serving one to two years due to redistricting, while Katy City Council and KISD board members will serve three years, according to their respective websites.

The election will take place May 2, with early voting running from April 20-28, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
The last day to register to vote is April 2.
