Final unofficial election results show George Arroyos and Vanessa Marsters won their races for Lamar Consolidated ISD board of trustees positions, according to Fort Bend County data.

The gist

Marsters beat Leslie Menchaca Gracia for the District 3 seat, with a gap of more than 200 votes. Meanwhile, Arroyos came out ahead over Bisi Ngwolo and Anthony Warren for the District 6 seat, with 185 votes to their 54 and 59 votes, respectively.


Neither seat had an incumbent, as trustees Mandi Bronsell and Joe Hubenak didn’t seek re-election for District 3 and District 6, respectively.
What they're saying

In an interview, Arroyos, who has a career in financial planning, said he is "honored and humbled" by the "bipartisan" community support he received during his campaign.

He also said he's looking forward to collaborating with other board members and Superintendent Roosevelt Nivens to enhance academic outcomes.

"I want to thank my supporters and my family and thank God for this opportunity," he said.


Marsters, who has a career in business management, said in an emailed statement the victory is reflects her more than 10 years of involvement in the community and district.

"The community saw that commitment up close which gave them confidence in me and our shared priorities for the district’s future," she said in the statement. "I’m honored by their trust and eager to get to work for our students, staff and families."

Early voting results for the May 3 election show George Arroyos and Vanessa Marsters are frontrunners for two Lamar Consolidated ISD board of trustees positions, according to Fort Bend County data.

The details

Districts 3 and 6 are on the ballot, and five candidates filed for the two positions. Marsters and Leslie Menchaca Gracia are seeking the District 3 seat, while Arroyos, Bisi Ngwolo and Anthony Warren are vying for District 6.


Incumbent trustees Mandi Bronsell and Joe Hubenak didn’t seek re-election for District 3 and District 6, respectively.

Digging deeper

In a questionnaire with Community Impact, Marsters, who has a career in business management, said her top priority if elected is teacher recruitment and retention.

Meanwhile, Arroyos, who has a career in financial planning, said in his questionnaire that he aimed to maintain sound fiscal policy of taxpayer dollars.


What’s next

The polls closed at 7 p.m., but voters who were in line before closing will still be able to cast their ballots, per state law.
