Unofficial election results show Amy Thieme, Morgan Calhoun and Mary Ellen Cuzela winning their respective Katy ISD board of trustees races.

For Position 3, Realtor Amy Thieme took home 6,250 votes, or 53.98% of the vote. Bruce Bradford and Shawn Miller received 4,398 and 931 votes, respectively.

Thieme told Community Impact she intends to uplift parents’ voices and put students first when serving in the role.

“I’m excited about representing Katy families, students and staff,” Thieme said.


Morgan Calhoun unofficially won the Position 4 race with 5,770 votes, or 49.96%. Cicely Taylor and Erica Brettell each received 3,183 and 2,597 votes, respectively. Calhoun could not be reached for comment by press time.

Finally, substitute teacher Mary Ellen Cuzela won the Position 5 race with 6,054 votes, or 52.27%. Shana Peterson took home 5,526 votes. Cuzela could not be reached for comment by press time.

There are three contested races for the Katy ISD board of trustees, including the Position 3, 4 and 5 races. Here are the leaders in each respective race with early voting results in.

For Position 3, Realtor Amy Thieme currently leads with 4,414 votes, or 53.89% of the vote. Mortgage lender Bruce Bradford follows with 38.18% of the vote and college professor Shawn Miller currently holds 7.92%.

In the Position 4 race, Morgan Calhoun holds a strong lead with 4,073 votes, or 49.87% of the vote. Cicely Taylor and Erica Brettell currently hold 26.58% and 23.55% of the vote, respectively.

Finally, substitute teacher Mary Ellen Cuzela and retired educator Shana Peterson are currently in a tightly-contested race: Early voting results show Cuzela with 4,250 votes, or 51.89%, and Peterson with 3,940, or 48.11%.
