The California-based chain known for its hot dogs was set to open a location last fall at 3325 W. Grand Parkway N., Ste. 100, Katy. However, Wienerschnitzel officials pushed back the opening date several times.
What you need to know
In the notice shared with Community Impact, Wienerschnitzel officials claim “serious structural safety issues” were found at the Peek Road property that prevent them from opening the location.
However, officials with Strive Realty, the real estate brokerage company for the site, claim there’s no issues at the property.
“I think that was just the tenant ... [being] obviously not happy that they had to close the location for their own reasons,” Strive Realty broker Michael Hill said. “But every tenant at that property is happy and hasn’t had any issues. So there’s nothing wrong, no structural issues.”
Wienerschnitzel officials didn’t return requests for comment requested via phone call or social media by press time.
The big picture
Hill said Strive Realty aims to sell the Peek Plaza shopping center, which was constructed in 2023, for a Houston-based developer.
The two-building center—which features tenants including R&B Tea, Coffee Fellows and X-Golf—was listed for sale in December, according to online commercial property marketplace LoopNet. New concept Baxter's Bar is also set to open in the center, Community Impact reported.
However, until Wienerschnitzel’s former end-cap space is occupied, the shopping center’s sale is on hold, Hill said. The center’s leasing agents are in talks with other restaurants to get someone to fill the space, he said.
Looking ahead
Although the Peek Road location of Wienerschnitzel isn’t coming to fruition, officials said in the notice they’re looking for another Katy-area location. In the meantime, patrons can visit the nearby location at 3538 S. Hwy. 6, Houston, per the notice.
“We know how much excitement and support we've received from the Katy community, and we sincerely apologize for this disappointment,” the notice reads. “Your enthusiasm for Wienerschnitzel's famous chili dogs, corn dogs and soft-serve treats has been overwhelming, and we remain committed to bringing our delicious menu to the Katy area.”
