Anna Eastman conceded to Penny Morales Shaw via Twitter and Facebook posts July 14 after a narrow loss to Penny Morales Shaw.

"At the end of the day, I believe we ran an honest campaign for the people. Congrats [Penny Morales Shaw]. Represent us well," Eastman's Twitter post read.

Anna Eastman appears to have lost the Texas House District 148 runoff to Penny Morales Shaw by a margin of 200 votes.


Election returns tallied from all 109 vote centers show Shaw with 4,335 votes, or 51.18%, and Eastman with 4,135, or 48.82%.

Shaw, an attorney with experience as a Harris County deputy chief of policy, received 22% of votes in the March primary, setting herself up for a challenge to incumbent Eastman, who took office in January after winning a special election for the seat.

Republican candidate Luis LaRotta, who ran unopposed in the March 2020 primary, will face the Democratic candidate in November.

Update at 10:30 p.m.

With 46 of 109 county vote centers reporting, incumbent Anna Eastman has lost more ground to Penny Morales Shaw.

Shaw had 3,841 votes to Eastman's 3,731, a gap of only 110 votes.

With early votes counted, Penny Morales Shaw held a six-vote margin over incumbent Anna Eastman for the Democratic nomination for Texas House District 148. Shaw had 3,098 votes to Eastman's 3,092.

Eastman originally won the seat in January, filling the vacancy left by Rep. Jessica Farrar.


The winner of the July 14 runoff will face Republican candidate Luis LaRotta, who ran unopposed in the March 2020 primary.
