What happened
The reconstruction of the roundabout allows for increased pedestrian safety through the installation of raised crosswalks and the replacement of damaged curbs. The project also involved making drainage improvements, adding new and refreshed signage, and resurfacing damaged areas of the road.
Long story short
The project has been years in the making, Kamin said in a text statement to Community Impact. Kamin said the project stalled for a period of time because of funding needs, and it was supplemented with $100,000 of District C's service dollars.
Quote of note
"The roundabout is something I came into office committed to improving," Kamin said. "We not only found a way to fund and incorporate the additional safety features for families and residents walking to schools and businesses nearby, but also a neighborhood-led initiative to create a safe crossing at Blossom [Street] for safer access to Memorial Park. I'm grateful for our residents and [Houston] Public Works; it was a team effort."
