Construction on Ashland Street between Ninth Street and 11th Street in the Heights is soon coming to an end, according to officials with the Houston Public Works Department. The project, which began in spring 2021, involves the installation of sewer lines, water lines, pavement and curb replacements, and sanitary sewer lines.
Some residents in the surrounding areas are expected to be directly affected by the construction. With project progression, some were told they would not have access to their driveways, while others were told they would lose water for short periods of time due to the reconnection of an installed water line.
With the removal and replacement of pavement, the project was carried out in a way that was meant to protect existing trees, according to information from Houston. However, due to the city’s tree preservation plan, diseased and dying trees were removed.
Following its original timeline, the project’s construction is set to finish between late February and early March. The overall completion of this project allows for a wider street with curb and gutter, and a new storm sewer.
