The Montrose Tax-Increment Reinvestment Zone is working with Harris County Precinct 1 to expedite and fund up to seven sidewalk and bikeway projects in the coming years. The first eligible project will be the Commonwealth Street and Waugh Drive corridor, one of several projects identified by the Montrose Walk and Bike Study, a TIRZ-funded initiative. Targeted improvements include overlaying deteriorated roadway surfaces, restriping to provide a bike lane and wider continuous sidewalks with curb ramps. The project could begin by the end of 2020 and would take nine months to complete. The project expands to West Dallas Street to the north and West Alabama Street to the south.
