Country pop artist Russel Dickerson will headline the main performance stage during the city of Houston's 2024 Shell Freedom Over Texas event, officials announced May 30. The event serves as the city's annual Fourth of July celebration.

Dickerson will be joined by two other country music acts during the celebration, including the Grammy nominated Jo Dee Messina and the vocalist trio Chapel Hart.

The big picture

The event will take place starting at 4 p.m. July 4 along the stretch of Buffalo Bayou that runs by Allen Parkway, with Eleanor Tinsley Park and Sam Houston Park serving as the main gathering places.

Other festivities will include:
  • A Bud Light Bayou Bash beach area, where Bud Light will sell drinks near the Main Stage
  • The Dr. Pepper Flavor Zone, where attendees can purchase Dr. Pepper floats, meet members of local sports teams and see a performance by Houston blues musician Mathias Lattin
  • The All-American Kids Zone, a new concept that will feature a Lego experience, free games, an arcade, rides, activities, costumed characters and a performance by G. W. Carver High School’s Dance Team
  • Liberty Park, where guests can see live music and view an installation called “Symbols of Freedom,” featuring a representation of the five military branches of Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy, as well as first responders
The live music performances will be followed by a fireworks display by Pyrotechnico.
