Ahead of the planned fall opening of the new restaurant and lounge concept Ciel, restaurant officials announced Aug. 23 that Joseph Geiskopf would serve as executive chef.

Geiskopf's previous work has included time at the three-star Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The menu at Ciel will blend modern Japanese and French cuisines, according to the Aug. 23 release. The venue will also offer craft cocktails, champagne and wine selections. "Ciel" is the French word for "sky."

“Houston is now my home, and I am proud to be part of a team dedicated to bringing an elevated new experience to a city that has an honorable and remarkable culinary landscape,” Geiskopf said. “Ciel is unlike anything I have worked on previously, and I am inspired by the vision of its ownership.”

Geiskopf will be joined by Frank Hernandez as chef de cuisine at Ciel.
