The Garden Oaks and Oak Forest neighborhoods are getting a new hangout spot with the opening of The Upside Pub on Aug. 9 at 3402 N. Shepherd Drive, Houston.

According to a July 28 press release, married couple Paige and Andy Lujan moved to Houston in 2021 with a dream to launch their own neighborhood-friendly bar using their own talents to help with the launch of the project. Paige, who has 13 years of experience in the hospitality industry as well as an extensive past with craft beer, will manage day-to-day operations. Andy, who is a former Army Ranger with a finance and accounting background, will support the business in a back-office role and as an on-call busser and runner.

“We are ecstatic to have the opportunity to open an establishment in our community,” Paige said in the release. “Every neighborhood deserves a neighborhood pub, and after a lot of hard work, paint-stained T-shirts and learning plumbing on YouTube, we are finally ready to bring this pub to the GOOF neighborhood.”

Patrons of The Upside Pub can expect 14 beers on the inaugural tap list, wine, two draft cocktails and a small spirit list, the release said. The bar will also serve food for lunch, dinner and late-night meals. Menu items include boiled peanuts, a patty melt, grilled cheese and a California burrito.

According to the release, the bar will have a variety of board games, a shuffleboard table and will air sporting events.

The Upside Pub will be open Tuesdays through Sundays from noon-2 a.m. Monday service is expected to be added soon, the release said.

“We truly look forward to meeting all of you [in the neighborhood] over the coming weeks and hope to become your regular hangout,” Paige said. www.upsidepub.com
