A new neighborhood pub is being plotted in the Garden Oaks/Oak Forest area where guests will be able to sip on a selection of craft beers while playing games, watching sporting events or sitting down for brunch.

Owners Paige and Andy Lujan anticipate opening The Upside Pub this summer at 3402 N. Shepherd Drive, Houston, in a 1,500-square-foot space formerly occupied by Tres Amigos Cafe y Cantina. The venue will also feature a 300-square-foot, all-weather patio space, according to an April 4 press release.

“What sets a pub apart is its ability to encourage a sense of ownership from the community," Paige Lujan said in a statement. "We want Upside Pub to serve a purpose for our neighborhood—from post-PTA meeting drinks, to weekday lunch for local businesses, to being the perfect third date spot where someone will always know your name.”

The Upside Pub will feature 15 taps of "approachable brews" as well as a rotating bottle and can list that will allow for a broader array of beer types. Wine and liquor options will also be available.

A small food menu will be served for lunch and dinner as well as late night options. The menu will feature pub favorites like housemade queso and chicken wings in addition to other options, such as spiced, boiled peanuts; northeast shrimp rolls; and California burritos. A weekend brunch service will come later down the line, according to the release.

Board games and other large group format games will be available at the venue, and sporting events will be aired based on what patrons are interested in, Paige Lujan said.

“We will show what the community wants to see, whether that’s EPL soccer matches, local major team events or the bass fishing finals,” Paige Lujan said.

Matrix Contractors LLC is overseeing the buildout of The Upside Pub with input from the Lujans, according to the release.
