What to know
Kibbe is a graduate from the University of Chicago College of Biological Sciences and the Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and her vascular surgery fellowship at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, according to the release.
Kibbe was chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina and a tenured professor of medicine in the Department of Surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine before becoming dean of the University of Virginia School of Medicine and chief health affairs officer at UVA Health, according to the release.
Kibbe co-founded VesselTek BioMedical, a company that specialized in the development of medical devices to treat vascular disease. Kibbe’s research, which focused on novel therapies for vascular disease, has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Kibbe is currently a practicing vascular surgeon and a physician-scientist, according to the release.
Kibbe will remain the sole finalist for a state-required 21-day waiting period before officially being named president.
