Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo is moving on to other challenges, according to a late night March 14 email, confirmed by the officers' union.

"We appreciate his service to Houston, and wish him the best in Miami," HPOU president David Griffin said.

According to a Facebook post, the Florida city's police chief resigned his position at the end of February.

Acevedo, who was born in Cuba, was Houston's first Hispanic police chief. Prior to being hired in 2016, he served as the chief of Austin's police department.
