What readers should know
Originally scheduled for June 1-2, the annual, two-day event was postponed to September for safety reasons related to the May 16 derecho storm. The event is now slated to take place Sept. 7-8.
The details
Similar to last year, participants take part in a self-paced bicycle ride around the Heights while looking for clues.
Those who sign up will receive a map of the route by email the day before the event begins along with a list of clues describing sights or objects that can be seen along the route. Copies of the map can also be picked up at 605 Omar St., Houston, one day before the event begins.
The rider who finds the most clues will be named the winner, though prizes will also be awarded to other top clue-finding riders.
Participants can sign up for an easier 5-mile route or a more difficult 15-mile route, event organizers said. Clues are due at the Heights Fire Station, 107 W. 12th St., Houston, by 3 p.m. Sept. 8.
What else
An after party picnic will take place from 3-5 p.m. Sept. 8 at Marmion Park, 1800 Heights Blvd., Houston. The event will feature live music and free food, but donations are welcome. The after party is open to both participants and general community members who did not participate in the scavenger hunt.
A bicycle safety course with certified bicycle safety instructors will also take place from 8:30-10 a.m. Sept. 8 and is free to attend.
One more thing
Entry into the 15-mile route costs $25, while entry to the 5-mile route costs $15, and funds raised support the Houston Heights Association. Tickets can be purchased here.
