2023 marks the third year of Juneteenth being recognized as a federal holiday. Juneteenth, which falls on June 19, commemorates the emancipation of African American slaves. Texas plays an important role in the date, as it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, when troops arrived in Galveston Bay to announce the remaining enslaved people’s freedom. June 16: Fort Bend County Juneteenth Celebration

Fort Bend County Judge KP George will host his annual Fort Bend County Juneteenth Celebration. This year's Juneteenth Celebration promises to be a memorable event, featuring various vendors, entertainment, dance performances, and insightful presenters. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the diverse range of vendors and enjoy the lively atmosphere.June 17: Juneteenth Jubilee

The Sienna Juneteenth Jubilee returns to Sienna with fun for all ages. Performing at the event will be the Reggie Jamz Band and Swag Boiz as well as the Texas Southern University Tigers Sensations dance team. Artist ANGE will give a live speed-painting performance. Other activities include a bubble zone, a video game truck, a photo booth, a sand art station, caricature artists, face painters, jewel and glitter artists, and balloon artists. Young adventurers will enjoy carnival rides, an extreme obstacle course, an 18-foot double lane slide and more.June 17: Juneteenth celebration

Generation Park will host a Juneteenth celebration, during which attendees can celebrate a day of freedom, unity and culture while listening to guest speakers and enjoying live music, food trucks, games and local vendors.June 17: Juneteenth Celebration at Emancipation Park


Houston’s Emancipation Park Conservancy welcomes all to its annual Juneteenth Celebration at Emancipation Park. Featuring a fun run and a music festival, the free event commemorates the day that Texas’ enslaved population learned of their freedom and the founding of Emancipation Park by freedmen seven years later.June 17: Celebrate Juneteenth

Head to the Miller Outdoor Theatre for a celebration of African Americans and their contribution to American music. This event will pay tribute to artists such as Miles Davis, Al Jarreau, Aretha Franklin and more. Tickets can be purchased June 16 on the theater’s website. The event will go on rain or shine and will also be streamed on Miller Outdoor Theatre’s website and social media.June 18: Juneteenth festival

Lagoonfest Texas will be hosting a Juneteenth festival with music, food and fun in the sun. Groove to the beats of Smokin' Joe Leonard, the Blaque Vinyls and the CC Rider Band while enjoying various water activities or relaxing on the white sandy beach. Treat yourself to frozen strawberry daiquiris and indulge in a variety of casual food options from Lagoonfest Texas food trucks.

June 19: Juneteenth fish fry

The freedmen’s town of Tamina will be having a fish fry fundraiser and historic photo exhibit to celebrate Juneteenth. All proceeds will benefit mobile literacy for children.
