Candidate applications officially closed on Feb. 2 for a chance to enter the race for Houston City Council's open District C seat.
Geographically, District C includes portions of the Heights, Washington Avenue, Montrose, Rice Village and Meyerland.

Seven candidates will vie for the position during a special election in April. In ballot order, the candidates include:
The special election will be held April 4, with the winner of the race filling the role on City Council until January 2028.
Taking a step back
Longtime council member Abbie Kamin announced in early December that she would vacate her seat in Houston to run for Harris County attorney, a position previously held by Christian Menefee, who won a runoff election in January to represent District 18 until its term expires in January 2027.
In a Q&A with Community Impact, Kamin said she chose to run in the Harris County attorney race to help defend the country from "Abbott, Paxton and Trump's attacks on local control."
"I took on Abbott over voting rights and WON, stood up to neo-Nazi hate groups to stop bigotry and took on MAGA Republicans to protect our flood dollars," she said. "I’ll never stop fighting for our families."
Kamin will face off against civil court judge Audrie Lawton Evans in the March 3 Democratic primary election.
