The Houston ISD board of trustees will hold a special meeting July 23 to further discuss the district's reopening plans. Members of the public will also have an opportunity to weigh in.

In a public Facebook post, Board President Sue Deigaard expressed support for the administration's plans, which were announced July 15.

"The plan released this week exemplifies what a high-functioning board-superintendent team should look like," Deigaard wrote. "The board gave the parameters for outcomes—we want our students to keep learning, and we want our students and employees to be safe and healthy. After that, we got out of the administration’s way to develop a plan based on feedback solicited from educational experts, health experts, employees and families."

The July 23 meeting will be begin at 5 p.m. via video conference. Livestreams are available on HISD's TV cable access channel as well as online at www.houstonisd.org/livetv, www.facebook.com/houstonisd or www.twitter.com/houstonisd.

Members of the public who wish to speak must register online by 9:30 a.m. July 23.
