Despite the potential for a state-ordered replacement of the Houston ISD Board of Education, incumbents and new candidates are stepping up for a chance to remain involved in the future of the district.

Education advocacy group Houstonians for Great Public Schools will host a candidate forum at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at The DeLuxe Theater, 3305 Lyons Ave, Houston.

"These elections still matter," said Houston GPS Executive Director Jasmine Jenkins.

If a board of managers is appointed, the trustees can remain involved as representatives without voting powers, Jenkins said.

Here are the candidates who have filed to run in the 2019 HISD trustee election.
